On day one of this class, I was nervous and hesitant. Even though I had participated in (and enjoyed) drama classes throughout high school, those experiences seemed like a distant memory. I was nervous to begin this adventure in drama class. However, I shortly began to recognize that anyone can benefit from and effectively participate in a variety of drama lessons.
What a short period of time to learn and experience so much! My short time spent in this drama class has been so much fun, yet it has helped me grow so much as an educator and drama teacher. This class has not only provided me with useful strategies for being an effective drama teacher, but for being an effective teacher in general. The strategies that I have learned in drama have provided me with valuable tools when developing personal classroom management strategies and teaching a variety of learning styles. I recognized that drama strategies were effective classroom management strategies as I observed how students at Edith Cavell responded to the lesson on Lily and the Paper Man. Students were engaged throughout the lesson and students behaviour was not disruptive.
I think that my experience in this class has caused me to recognize the various ways that students can benefit from drama in the classroom. I hope that I am able to deliver these strategies in as effective a manner as I was taught them.
Overall, I appreciate my experience in this drama class. I now leave this class feeling much more confident in my ability to deliver successful drama lessons to my future students in order to inspire them to critical thinkers and empathetic individuals.
